How can I test my drink for spiking?

October 23, 2026
How can I test my drink for spiking?

Test your drink for GHB, ketamine and Rohypnol in 3 minutes with one drop. How the Safe Sip⁺ drink test sticker works and how to read the result.

How can I test my drink for spiking?

You can test a drink for some common spiking drugs with a drink test sticker like 2San Safe Sip⁺™ Drink Test Sticker. It works with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Put one drop of your drink on the sticker and wait 3 minutes. If a test spot changes colour, it may have detected GHB, Ketamine or Rohypnol, so don't drink it.

A test can't detect every substance. If you feel unwell, get help straight away, whatever the test shows.

How do I test my drink with Safe Sip⁺™ Drink Test Sticker?

1. Peel off the paper backing and stick Safe Sip⁺™ to a flat surface, such as your phone case or a card. A blank card is included in the package.

2. When you're ready to test, remove the clear cover from the top of the sticker.

3. Put a single drop of your drink in the centre of the test area. It should cover all 3 test spots. One drop is all the test needs.

4. Wait 3 minutes for the spots to dry, then read the result. Don't read it after 5 minutes.

What can't SafeSip⁺™ Drink Test Sticker tell you?

SafeSip⁺™ checks for three drugs only. A negative result means none of those three were detected. It doesn't mean your drink is safe. When in doubt, throw it out.

  • Alcohol: extra alcohol in a drink is the most common form of spiking.
  • Other drugs: for example other benzodiazepines, amphetamines or prescription medicines.

SafeSip⁺™ is for testing drinks only. It is for personal use and isn't a medical test. A positive result should never be the only proof that a drug is present. A positive result is not to be used as the sole basis for determining the presence of illegal drugs.

What should I do if I think my drink was spiked?

  1. Stop drinking it. Keep the drink if you can, and tell a friend or venue staff. Discard any suspected spiked beverages immediately.
  2. Stay with someone you trust. Don't leave alone, don't drive and don't go with people you don't know.
  3. Call your local emergency number straight away if you or a friend feel very unwell, can't stay awake, have trouble breathing or become unconscious.
  4. Contact the police as soon as you can. Some drugs leave the body quickly, so testing early gives the best chance of detecting them.
  5. Get support. Help is there whether or not you report to police.

It's never your fault if your drink is spiked. Drink spiking is a crime in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US and Canada.

How can I lower the risk on a night out?

  • Buy your own drinks and watch them being made.
  • Don't accept drinks from people you don't know, and don't drink anyone else's.
  • Never leave your drink unattended. Ask a trusted friend to watch it if you need to leave.
  • Plan with friends how you'll look out for each other and get home.
  • Keep a SafeSip⁺™ Drink Test Sticker on your phone so you can test a drink you're unsure about.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can you test a drink for spiking at home or at a venue?

Yes. SafeSip+™ Drink Test Stickers are designed to check for specific substances in a drink sample. Follow the product instructions carefully. No test sticker can detect every substance or guarantee that a drink is safe.

2. What does SafeSip+™ Drink Test Sticker detect?

SafeSip+™ is designed to test for GHB, ketamine, and Rohypnol (flunitrazepam). Refer to the official product instructions for the exact detection capabilities and limitations.

3. How long does the SafeSip+™ Drink Test Sticker take?

The test takes approximately three minutes according to the product instructions. Read the result within the specified time window and follow the instructions for interpreting any colour changes.

4. Does a negative result mean my drink is safe?

No. A negative result does not rule out every substance that could be used to spike a drink. Do not rely on a test sticker alone to determine whether a drink is safe to consume.

5. Can I use SafeSip+™ Drink Test Stickers with any drink?

Check the official product instructions for compatible beverages. The product information states that the sticker should not be used with milk or drinks containing milk products.

6. What should I do if the test is positive?

Do not drink the beverage. Move to a safe place, tell someone you trust or venue staff, and seek medical assistance if you feel unwell. Contact the appropriate local authorities if you suspect drink spiking.

7. Where can I learn more about SafeSip+™ Drink Test Stickers?
